Location:
Staten Island, NY
Age Range:
20-24
Favorite Type of Music:
Pop
Occupation, Skill, or Talent:
I'm currently a student at Cornell about to graduate in less than two weeks! I'm also an accomplished track athlete at Cornell (60 meter and 110 meter hurdles) and am a rap artist. I'm doing Teach for America in Philadelphia next year and living in Maryland. My goal is to use my rap talent to achieve international stardom in the music scene while touching the lives of those who listen to my music (kinda like Kanye West).
What youth issue do you feel needs the most attention?
mental health
Personal Statement:
I believe in the traditional meaning of 'pop music' which is popular music. Therefore, I'm on a quest to reach the hearts of a diverse collection of individuals with messages that address issues of the world. I am also on a quest to entertain these people.

Part of the reason I am a fan of Guerilla Arts is because GA is collaborating academics and rap artists: something very rare nowadays. I've always felt that one of the keys to successfully aiding those who are going through adversity is the collaboration of people of many disciplines. In my opinion, the rap, hip-hop and pop 'disciplines' are ones that could use a little more collaboration with the academic community. I, like many others in GA, happen to be a member of both the rap and academic communities. This is another reason why I am a fan of GA and am becoming a member.

I am not trying to join GA because I feel that it will benefit my academic or musical fame. I don't want to simply 'use' GA. See, I live my life for the betterment of all so I'm not afraid of losing it (my life that is). I've already given my life to the higher power and am living through the spirit. All my athletic, academic, musical, social and other accomplishments mean nothing if I'm not benefiting the world in any way. There have been so many psychological barriers to achieving solutions to universal issues and one of them is the notion of the feeling of superiority. I am superior to no one and strive not to create the impression that I feel superior to anyone. We are all in this together so I'll play my part and hopefully we can be as productive as possible.
